It seems that the cast of Chris Pratt in next year’s Super Mario movie could have been imagined by Mario + Rabbids before the Nintendo Direct.
In an image comparison on Twitter, a user theorized that the cast of Chris Pratt in next year Super Mario Bros. animation would be possible by an indication of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, long before yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. During Nintendo’s launch yesterday, they made several announcements about the upcoming Super Mario Bros. The animated film will be released in theaters on December 21, 2022. The voice of Mario is none other than Chris Pratt, also known for his role as Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, which set the Internet on fire. Apart from that, Anya Taylor will vote Joy Princess Peach, Charlie Day will vote Luigi and Jack Black will vote Bowser.
A few months ago during another Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced the sequel to the Nintendo-Ubisoft crossover Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, called Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. The game has yet to announce a specific release date, other than a vague arrival in 2022. However, Nintendo has teased some of its footage. Lots of movie announcements trailer for the new Mario + Rabbids game takes place in space, on a spaceship; much like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies. There seem to be other similarities between the two franchises that – following the announcement of Chris Pratt’s role as the famous plumber – come to light, thanks to a few observant and comic fans.
Twitter user Diego9VII placed two images next to each other, one from the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope boxing, and one from a Guardians of the Galaxy movie poster. Both Mario and Chris Pratt’s character, Star Lord, carry futuristic rifles that are very strikingly similar. Mario and Pratt were also placed in similar ways, with both figures in the top left corner of their respective posters. Obviously, there is no comment from any franchise on the legality of this connection.
Other Twitter users were more than happy to play along with Diego9VII’s humorous theory. A user even commented on a graphic showing the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope boxing with the Guardians of the Galaxy movie poster. Another one tweeted a photo of Star Lord and drew Mario-like features (like Mario’s iconic red hat and white gloves) on the intergalactic superhero.
To add to this theory, the video game, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, will be launched on the Nintendo Switch next month. With both games on the same console, it is possible that some kind of crossover could take place. The world of Guardians of the Galaxy is full of strange alien characters, from a dog with an astronaut suit to Great, the walking plant. Would something like a Rabbid really be so far-fetched? Maybe by now Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope come on, Chris Pratt will somehow make a comedy, possibly as Star Lord or maybe just as a small voice-over appearance.
