A new report has emerged that Sony’s endgame for their Spider-Man movie universe is building up the infamous Sinister Six team.
It seems like Sony might be trying to get the famous Sinister Six team back on the big screen. Spider-Man played a very fruitful role in cinema, with the beloved trilogy led by Sam Raimi released in the early 2000s, followed by The Amazing Spider-Man reloaded in 2012 and 2014. Currently, Marvel Studios is working with Sony to bring Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the web pendulum exists in the same universe as the Avengers.
The Sinister Six is one of the most famous supervillain teams in comic book history. The team’s first iteration consists of Doc Ock, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Vulture, Sandman and Electro. There were also other members like Green Goblin, Rhino and Venom. Previously, Sony tried to put together a Sinister Six team in the Wonderful Spider-Man universe, especially in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In the film, Electro, Green Goblin and Rhino were villains, with nuisance to Vulture and Doc Ock, and Lizard appeared in the previous film. It eventually failed, along with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 it was planned.
Now, Deadline’s Hero Nation Podcast (via TheDirect) reported on what Sony had planned for The Sinister Six. It seems like they want to rebuild the team, with the goal of being a cross with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Check out the quote below from Deadlineis Anthony D’Alessandro:
‘Because Sony has always liked, apart from the current Spider-Man stuff they do with the Disney MCU, Sony has always separated their Marvel stuff, and with this Venom they’re actually going to join the Spider-Man universe [that’s being set-up with the] Disney MCU. So this is very interesting. I know that one of their long term goals is to achieve Sinister Six . This is quite the project we are all waiting for; their version of the bad guys from Spider-Man [universe]. “
It is currently unknown how Sony will make this Sinister Six movie. The studio has movies like Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius coming out soon, with other projects like Mrs Web also in the pipeline. Let there be carnage There are also rumors that he could also link up with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in some way. Further, Spider man: No way home is the establishment of the multiverse with recurring villains such as Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock of Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There is a possibility that No way home can tease the team and also connect with other Sony Spider-Man movies. This would mean that Poison could join the MCU and vice versa.
Regardless of how the team exists, Sony and Marvel have created enough villains through this upcoming multiverse to make the Sinister Six. It is also unclear whether the film will be part of the MCU or will just join via Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Hopefully, the potential Sinister Six movie meets the fans’ hype and delivers what Sony tried to do years ago.
